In the recent elections 2012, Congress won clear majority out 36 out of 70 seats and Vijay Bahuguna was elected as CM and now the current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand is Harish Rawat, whereas BJP won 29, but it was very close to the majority and BSP won 8 seats, other including independent candidates on 7 seats.
